F6 Safeguards must be in place Print E-mail

Liberal candidate for Miranda Graham Annesley has come out in support of the construction of the F6 road extension and promised to fight for a 6 point plan to safeguard local residents.

“This project has been on the drawing board for over 50 years and is one of the major missing links in the Sydney road network. We need to reclaim our local roads and unclog our streets of through traffic. Any suggestion that additional road infrastructure will never be needed ignores legitimate concerns over mounting traffic in our community,” Mr Annesley said.

I will fight to ensure that should any future Government decide to proceed with the project the road is built on local residents’ terms – not the Government’s. The Labor Government has shown us how NOT to build roads. We simply cannot afford to give Frank Sartor, Michael Costa and Joe Tripodi the opportunity to repeat these mistakes in the Shire.”

Mr Annesley said that after listening to many residents, he has developed a 6 point list of safeguards for any future plans to build the F6 extension:

They are:

  1. Ensure there is extensive community consultation in relation to the environmental impact.
  2. Ensure the latest road construction methods are used to maximise the retention of open space (e.g. underground where possible with filtered ventilation away from homes, parks and schools).
  3. Ensure the road design allows for future traffic growth.
  4. Ensure all contract details are transparent so there can be no secret deals to close local streets which force motorists onto a toll road with no viable free alternative.
  5. Ensure improved public transport options are integrated into any proposal.
  6. Ensure any other legitimate concerns of the majority of residents are properly and justly addressed.

“Poor planning decisions like the cross-city tunnel and more locally the construction of a Desalination Plant prove that locals need a say in how their infrastructure is delivered”, Mr Annesley said.

“I believe it is vitally important to be pro active on important local infrastructure. When the F6 is built residents’ concerns must be taken into consideration.”
